How to Tint Glass Automobile Windows

Check with your state laws first before attempting this project. Some states may have restrictions on tinted windows. It’s advisable to purchase a kit that comes with the necessary tools and the film is already cut to the correct size for your car. The tools in “Thins You’ll Need”, with the exception of the heat gun, distilled water, baby shampoo, and spray bottle should be included with the kit. The rear window kit may have to be purchased separately and does not have to be from the same manufacture.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

·       Plastic scraper

·       Hard Card

·       Gasket Jammer

·       Mild shampoo (baby shampoo)

·       Spray Bottle

·       Distilled Water

·       Heat gun (rear window)

1.      Step 1

Mix ¼ tsp of baby shampoo with 1 quart of distilled water.

2.      Step 2

Clean outside and inside of window with cleaning solution and wipe dry with a lint free cloth or paper towels.

3.      Step 3

Using the plastic scraper, scrap off any dirt that has remained on the window.

4.      Step 4

Remove weather gasket from window.

5.      Step 5

Wet inside of window using distilled water; remove film from liner and wet sticky side of liner. Roll down window slightly and apply film to inside of window. Tuck film under bottom gasket using the gasket jammer. Align top of film to the top of the window and make sure sides are also aligned.

6.      Step 6

Using the hard card, squeegee from the center out; be sure to remove all bubbles.

7.      Step 7

Roll down window and re-insert weather gasket. When done roll window back up.

8.      Step 8

Repeat steps 2 through 7 for remaining side windows. Allow 2-3 days before rolling down windows.

9.      Step 9

Clean outside of rear window with soapy water. Use the plastic scraper scrape off any dirt that has remained on the window.

10.     Step 10

The rear window film is heat shrinkable and you must follow the manufactures’ instructions as the installation may vary by manufacture. The basic concept applies that applied for the side windows except for the rear window you will shrink the film to size.
