Interview Question for active diectory and exchange


E-mails are stuck in queue

Check the State column of the SMTP Queue. If it is other than Active State, then try Force Connection to change the status to Active and give another chance for Exchange to deliver the messages.

If the messages are stuck in

Pre-submission Queue –Check for third-party applications (antivirus, etc.)

Awaiting Directory Lookup – Check for DNS problems

Check for Active Directory problems

Check for proper attributes of the Users (Q281761)

Check limits and restrictions

Check recipient policies

Check distribution Group properties

Check permissions of the objects in Active Directory

Waiting to be routed – Make sure Routing Engine Service is started

Make sure Address Spaces are correct

Check Link State (use Winroute)

Local Delivery - Make sure that the Information Store service is started and the mailbox and public folder store are mounted

Remote Queues - Verify DNS can lookup an MX and A record for remote domains

Make sure that the SMTP service is started

Check for possible network Problems

Check for problems with Firewalls, Proxies, routers, etc.
